Temple Celebration in Johannesburg, South Africa!

On a gorgeous spring afternoon, guests joined to celebrate the historic anniversary of "The House of The Lord"

Under the direction of the Africa Southeast Area Presidency and office of Public Affairs of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, an open house and luncheon commemorating the 30th anniversary of the beautiful Johannesburg Temple was held 16 September. Invited guests included many prominent civic, community and interfaith leaders from throughout Johannesburg and surrounding areas.

Guests were welcomed into the "Gate House" adjoining the temple, located on Jubilee Road in Parktown. Displays and videos documenting the history of the sacred edifice that sits high on the hill overlooking Johannesburg were of great interest to all, including members and those of various faiths.

Keynote speaker for the luncheon, held amid the gardens below the temple, was Professor David Mosoma, currently the Deputy Chairperson CRL Rights Commission and Former Deputy Vice Chancellor.

Elder Carl B. Cook, President of the Africa Southeast Area of the Church, concluded the program, expressing his love and gratitude for the temple. He recognized the sacrifice of so many Latter-day Saints in bringing to pass the building and dedication of the sacred building.

The week of 20-26 September has been designated by the Area Presidency as a special "Temple Celebration Week", with other historic meetings focusing on the temple to be held.
