Knitting For Children and Lighting The World Day: 7

Witkoppen Welfare Clinic's Children Benefit from the talents of Sister Saints

The Light The World Christmas campaign for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints gave many opportunity to serve children.

Bridgette Dow, an employee of Sandton Medi Clinic’s Radiology Department began a wonderful project this year.

Seeing children from the Witkoppen Welfare Clinic having many needs, she decided with colleagues to do something.  They all enjoy knitting and crocheting so making blankets for each child seemed a good fit,  though the blankets are very time consuming.  Strips are made from seven colored blocks and then joined to complete blankets.

Joy Bester, a member of the Church working at the Africa southeast area office had inquired about the project with Bridgette during a visit to the radiology clinic. Joy and other employees at the office decided to help. They began choosing colors and making strips.  Senior sister missionaries, also from the office were invited to join in. Together, during the following two months, they were able to knit 63 strips, representing 1,363 hours of work and over twelve blankets.
Also donated were many hand crocheted animals and other toys.  As Latter-day Saints, the sisters believe that to serve as the Savior did during this season brings great Light to the World.

Bridgette will be giving the completed balnkets to the Witkoppen Center before Christmas
