Church Supports Interfaith Memorial Service for Lonmin Mine

Over 40 members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints attended and participated in an Interfaith memorial service (for the Lonmin Mine Tragdedy) in downtown Johannesburg today, 23 August 2012.

The event was organised by NICSA (National Interfaith Council of South Africa).  Dr Mathole Motshekga, Chief Whip of the ANC Ruling Party, attended and spoke on behalf of the government.

Representatives from many faiths were present. Sean Donnelly, Public Affairs Director for the Church, offered the opening prayer.  "The event was colourful, and spiritual, and ultimately a uniting of faith", commented Donnelly.
